Development is a term used to describe the process of change from one form or state of deprivation to another that is perceived as being better in terms of functionality, durability, and serviceability. More often than not development initiatives like in many developing countries focus on addressing poverty, ignorance, and disease but fail to adequately address mental, social, and spiritual aspects which are equally important for achieving desired outcomes in order to move people out of poverty towards self-reliance and stability. Development from a biblical perspective is about more than just meeting material and information needs. It is about transformation and renewal in all aspects of life. This includes physical, mental, social, and spiritual aspects. It is about bringing about a new way of life, one that is in line with God's will and plan. It is one that seeks to bring justice, mercy, grace, and love, and take practical steps to bring about a transformation of the people. It involves working together with others, in the community, to bring about positive change. It also involves spiritual renewal, as we seek to restore our relationship with God and participate in restoring God's kingdom.

The idea that brokenness can manifest in many different areas—not just material wealth—was demonstrated by Jesus in his ministry. He preached, healed the sick, drove out demons, fed hungry crowds, celebrated weddings, and fasted. All of these acts showed that real transformation cannot be achieved without addressing all aspects of life holistically rather than just focusing on alleviating economic deprivation. This holistic approach to transformation involves looking beyond immediate needs to the deeper causes of systemic issues so that a lasting impact can be made which means development will manifest differently to different groups of people. The Bible provides us with an invaluable framework for approaching sustainable development that seeks to transform lives at a personal level by encouraging individuals to pursue a purposeful and meaningful life within a community where everyone has access to the same opportunities regardless of their socio-economic status. This holistic approach allows us to create more equitable societies based on mutual respect and trust, where no one is left behind due to poverty, ignorance, prejudice, etc. This to me is what development is all about.
